Birmingham community centre secures cash boost
A leading housebuilder has provided a cash injection to a Birmingham-based community centre that acts as the social hub of its community.
Brandwood Community Centre was selected as a part of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions scheme, being awarded £1,000 to further the charity’s work within the community. Persimmon’s Community Champions project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities.
The centre is an award winning multi-functional venue and is a focal point within the community, offering a full program of activities, projects and events. The centre aims to improve community spirit, inclusion and quality of life for those within the local area.
Patricia Watson, centre manager at Brandwood Community Centre, said: “We are thrilled to receive funding from Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions initiative, as this allows us to improve our much needed services.
“We have a wealth of activities on offer such as a ladies craft afternoon, over 50’s art group, training for the unemployed and much more. Persimmon’s donation allows us to bring the community together and, ultimately, that is the most important thing.”
The centre, which is situated in the Kings Heath area of south-west Birmingham, has an all-inclusive atmosphere that offers a one-stop shop for events in the community.
Amanda Benjamin, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to be donating £1,000 to Brandwood Community Centre as the charity acts as a social hub for the area, doing fantastic work within its community.
“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
The housebuilder has a range of 3 and 4 bedroom homes available on its Martineau Gardens site in Harborne, with their latest show homes recently being launched. The development is in a sought-after residential location, which boasts fantastic recreational amenities, a good selection of popular schools and an array of cultural activities to suit all tastes.
Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 25 regions. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
