Coventry school awarded £1,000 by leading housebuilder
A Coventry school will benefit from a cash injection from a leading housebuilder after being the latest winner of a community campaign.
Ravensdale School, based on Ravensdale Road in Wyken, has been selected as one of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions, receiving £1,000 to further work within the community. Persimmon’s Community Champions project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities.
The school has undertaken a range of fundraising activities, including fetes, discos and quiz nights raising more than £1,400. Both the school’s fundraising and Persimmon Homes Central’s donation is being put towards a sail canopy to make the outdoors of the school more appealing.
Rob Matthews, headteacher at Ravensdale Primary School, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes Central has chosen to support us and the money will make a big difference to us.
“We have a host of brilliant parents, supporters, staff and pupils that work hard to raise funds with great success. They do a fantastic job, though some items are expensive and can take years to fund.
“The money from Persimmon Homes Central means we are now able to realise our goal of adding a vibrant sail canopy to the exterior of the school. This injection of colour will be a real benefit to us, making the school more appealing while also providing shade for the children and staff on sunny days.”
Amanda Benjamin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to select Ravensdale School’s Parents and Supporters Association (PSA) as a part of our Community Champions initiative, rewarding their fantastic fundraising efforts in the community.
“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a difficult task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
The housebuilder has a range of homes and apartments available on its Weavers Gate and Weavers Wharf sites in Coventry. Persimmon Homes has invested heavily in city of Coventry in the last year, building 1,144 new homes in total, with 344 of those at Weavers Gate and 12 at Weavers Wharf.
Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 25 regions. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
