Leeds’ WYG secures €8.8m EuropeAid contract
WYG plc, the global programme, project management and technical consultancy, has been awarded a two year technical assistance contract by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policies on behalf of EuropeAid.
Leeds-headquartered WYG is the lead partner in a consortium, which includes Project Group, Archidata srl, Archidata International, A.N.F.E. Delegazione Regionale Sicilia and the National Agency for Roma.
Under the new contract, the consortium will provide technical assistance to a major programme which aims to increase social inclusion in the densely Roma populated areas of Turkey by facilitating their entry into the formal labour market.
The value of the contract to WYG will be approximately €8.8m.
This project to provide socio-economic consultancy services builds on the work WYG recently conducted with the Union of Municipalities in Turkey, providing technical assistance to increase the employability of disadvantaged persons.
The project, which will be implemented in 12 pilot provinces in Turkey, is WYG’s first with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. It is also first major project implemented in Turkey directly targeting Roma communities.
Paul Hamer, WYG’s chief executive officer, said: “As we reported in June, the delay in agreeing the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020 had a significant impact on our order book in Turkey during 2014. However, bidding activity during the first six months of this year was at an unprecedented level and we are delighted to have secured what we expect will be the first of a number of major projects over the coming months.
“We hope to build on the strong relationships we have with our consortium partners to expand our services in these important fields leading to continued growth in Turkey.”
