Award-winning show gets real lift from Acorn
Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts has been praised by one of the nation’s top comediennes for supporting her nationwide show which is coming to Bingley next month.
Victoria Wood, creator of the much loved 80s parodic soap opera ‘Acorn Antiques’ has thanked Acorn Stairlifts, one of the largest manufacturers of stairlifts in the world, for supplying more than 30 stairlifts to feature in the musical production of the show which tours theatres across the country.
Now Acorn Stairlifts is elevating its support even further by sponsoring and supplying a stairlift for next month’s Bingley Amateur production of Acorn Antiques the Musical at Bingley Arts Centre.
Acorn Stairlifts Company Secretary Dave Belmont said: “Supplying stairlifts to a show called ‘Acorn Antiques’ seemed a perfect fit for us – especially when the lead character, the much-loved Mrs Overall, makes a grand entrance on an Acorn Stairlift at the end of the show.
“Acorn can install a stairlift within hours of receiving an order, even on special curved staircases, so it is an easy task for us to install them on the stage for this excellent production.”
The five-time BAFTA winning comedienne has even changed the words of one of the show’s songs to incorporate the Acorn name while gently mocking a competitor brand – leaving the audience in no doubt of her approval of the Yorkshire firm’s generosity.
Dave added: “We were delighted when we found out that Bingley Amateurs are producing the show. Gilly Rogers who plays Mrs Overall, has already been to our offices to practise one of our stairlifts – it really makes for a showstopper on the night!”
Victoria Wood has also added her thanks to Acorn: “I am delighted Acorn Stairlifts are helping local groups to stage Acorn Antiques the Musical by supplying a free stairlift. The scene with Mrs Overall on a stairlift is one of the centrepieces of the show,” she said.
The Acorn Stairlift will be appearing in the production of Acorn Antiques the Musical when Bingley Amateurs are staging the show at Bingley Arts Centre from November 17 to 21. Tickets can be obtained from the Bingley Amateurs Box Office on 01274 567983 or from www.ticketsource.co.uk.
