IoD South Yorkshire's going for gold
Members of the Institute of Directors (IoD) South Yorkshire will be treated to a tour of the world renowned Sheffield Assay Office on Thursday 3rd December by Sheffield Assay Master Ashley Carson.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to learn about the Sheffield Assay Office’s fascinating history, take a tour of the marking hall, view the stunning silver collection and hear more about the historic practice of testing and hallmarking precious metals, such as gold, silver and platinum.
After the tour, Ashley Carson, who holds the distinction of being the youngest Assay Master ever appointed, will give an outline of how the Sheffield Assay Office has experienced rapid growth of its hallmarking services and how it has identified opportunities for diversification, developing a new range of analytical services.
Keith Jackson, Chairman of the IoD South Yorkshire, said: “This will be a fascinating insight into one of Sheffield’s most historic organisations, but one that most people know little about. We are expecting to attract both existing and new members and look forward to it being an informative and enlightening event. There will also be networking opportunities before and after the tour.”
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament. Today the company assays and hallmarks Silver, Gold, Platinum and Palladium. The Sheffield Assay Office is one of Four UK Assay Offices’ who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
The event is open to IoD members and non members and is free to attend. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
