Liverpool City Council considers John Lennon Airport investment
A new report from Liverpool City Council will recommend that the local authority invests in Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).
If the proposal comes to fruition, the council will team up with two companies to launch a joint venture through which it hopes to make a profit.
The council’s aim in the venture, according to ITV, is to improve the facilities at LJLA for the passengers and airlines using the facility, maximising Liverpool’s role in the government’s Northern Powerhouse vision.
Joe Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool, said: “John Lennon Airport is a major Liverpool success story, delivering a huge economic boost for the city, with the complex providing employment for thousands of people.”
“It is clearly in the interests of the city and the city region for JLA to continue to grow, create more jobs and boost economic growth.”
He added: “This opportunity to play a more active part in its future expansion and success makes it a sound investment for the council.”
The airport, which served close to 4m passengers in 2014, reported passenger growth of 7% between July and September.
