Yorkshire’s female only team Wear it Pink

YORKSHIRE’S only all female team of orthodontists are more used to asking patients not to eat sweets. But last week they encouraged them to tuck into cakes in aid of cancer research.

The award winning St Michael’s orthodontics team at Dewsbury Road spent their evenings baking up sweet treats for patients and then sold their cakes as part of the national Wear it Pink campaign.

Lead clinician, Catherine McCanny said they were all inspired because of the impact cancer has on families.

“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer; when it is a woman it can have a devastating affect on her whole family,” she said. “The team wanted to raise awareness among patients and some funds for the Wear it Pink campaign. We raised more than £200 so we’re delighted with that,” she added.

“Encouraging patients to eat cakes does seem counter intuitive, but we believe everything in moderation and everything was home baked.”
