Liverpool airport marks nine months of growing passenger figures
The number of passengers travelling through Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) increased for the ninth month in a row in October.
Close to 400k people used the facility during the month, representing a year-on-year rise of 9%.
Furthermore, the airport’s passenger figures for the year to date are around 6.5% higher than in 2014.
A number of new services have been added to LJLA’s offering in recent weeks, with Irish carrier Aer Lingus introducing 16 weekly departures to Dublin and Exeter-headquartered Flybe launching new daily flights to Edinburgh.
Vueling Airlines, meanwhile, started offering three weekly flights to Barcelona from LJLA back in March.
The airport’s CEO, Andrew Cornish, said: “We have seen almost 230k more passengers choose to use the airport so far this year, taking advantage of the increased choice of airlines and range of destinations now served from here and we expect this growth to continue in 2016 too.”
In the past year, LJLA has welcomed five airlines offering 12 additional services to eight new destinations, making more than 90 additional flights available for North West holidaymakers.
LJLA’s latest passenger figures follow the announcement that Liverpool City Council is weighing up the possibility of investing in the airport.
