Latin-inspired cultural hub opens in Newcastle City Centre
A new Latin-inspired cultural hub has opened at Bamburgh House in Newcastle, aiming to promote appreciation and understanding of other cultures within the city centre.
iVAMOS! Social, delivered by ¡VAMOS! and Breeze Creatives, offers a multipurpose space as well as an up-and-coming programme of Latin infused events.
The Market Street venue, previously a nightclub, has been transformed into a social space that runs both day and night in partnership with Northeast arts organisation, Breeze Creatives.
Nik Barrera, iVAMOS! Social founder and iVAMOS! Festival Director, explained: “iVAMOS! Social aims to introduce a vibrant community centre for everyone from Wednesday to Saturdays by offering a great space to come and work or socialise, food and drinks, DJ events, live music and film screenings. Plans for development in the near future includes workshops, markets, exhibitions, talks and hot-desking opportunities.
A permanent residence for the North East Latin festival iVAMOS!, which celebrated its’ 10th Anniversary in June 2015, hosted five events including exhibition openings, film screenings and international DJS in its new social space as part of its debut.
Nik added: “This is finally a place for us to call home. It might not be entirely iVAMOS! festival related after this opening but iVAMOS! will be at the heart of what happens here.”
In celebrating Spanish and Portuguese speaking cultures, iVAMOS! combines cuisine, art, film, theatre, dance, music, literature, fashion, sport and education offering an international festival appealing to partners and diverse mainstream audiences.
