My Wild Winter at Silverlink Shopping Park
• Free Christmas event for all the family Saturday 28 November • Learn how to look after garden wildlife this winter with Northumberland Wildlife Trust • See astonishing live ice-sculpting and win a chance to take part • Exclusive shopping discounts, offers and competitions for the weekend
Silverlink Shopping Park, Newcastle, is the location for My Wild Winter, a FREE Christmas event for all the family held in partnership with Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
Taking place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 28 November, shoppers of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about how to look after garden wildlife during the winter months and experience a live interactive ice sculpting demonstration that will create intricate sculptures of the nation’s favourite wildlife in ice.
Shoppers can choose which animals they want to be created in ice by taking part in an online poll at facebook.com/SilverlinkShoppingPark.
You can choose from a red squirrel, dormouse, hedgehog or robin. Each vote cast provides the additional opportunity to win a £20 shopping voucher and there is also a competition to win a place on a sculpting master-class on the day, to create your own ice sculpture through the Facebook page. Entrants must be over 12 and T&Cs apply.
To mark My Wild Winter retailers across Silverlink Shopping Park will be providing discounts and offers, including discounts from Carphone Warehouse (T&Cs may apply).
Representatives from Northumberland Wildlife Trust will be talking to shoppers, providing information on the fun and interesting ways to help local wildlife over winter - this includes animals such as the red squirrel that are under threat. Shoppers will also learn astonishing facts about local wildlife, for example did you know that red squirrels can swim, have four fingers, five toes and orange teeth?
Kevin O’Hara, Conservation Officer with Northumberland Wildlife Trust said: “Wildlife needs a helping hand in the winter and gardens are a vital source of shelter and food for wildlife, especially in autumn/winter when many species need warm, dry spaces to bed down in.”
Jo Francis, Head of Retail Property Management for the Regional Portfolio said: “The Crown Estate is always keen to promote the importance of biodiversity and enhancing the natural environment across our retail destinations. We are delighted to be partnering with The Wildlife Trust for My Wild Winter, educating visitors with facts and fun activities on how to care for local wildlife over the winter months.”
Silver Shopping Park has 18 leading high street retailers across fashion, lifestyle, homeware, as well as food and drink outlets. It is open seven days a week, with most stores open until 8pm. Please check with individual retail outlets for specific opening times.
