Liverpool John Lennon Airport smashes 2014 passenger levels
November saw Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) record its 10th consecutive month of growth, with passenger levels up 19% year on year.
More than 313k passengers used LJLA last month, with the year-to-date figure up by 7% against the same point in 2014.
The growth is partly attributed to an increased capacity following the introduction of Irish carrier Aer Lingus’ new Dublin service, as well as Flybe’s flights to Amsterdam and Edinburgh.
Additionally, LJLA’s two biggest airlines, Ryanair and easyJet, have also increased their services.
The airport’s CEO, Andrew Cornish, said: “Passenger trends seen throughout this year continued again last month.
“By the end of November more passengers travelled through Liverpool so far this year, than during the whole of 2014.”
He added: “With a month’s worth of passenger throughput still to be counted, we expect to see passenger throughput for 2015 to be back to levels last seen in 2012.”
During 2016, for which the the summer schedule was recently unveiled, a number of new services begin. Spanish carrier Vueling will launch its flights to Barcelona, while Czech Airlines is set to return to operate its Prague route.
