Exports keep sales rolling at Leeds Bearings company
Quality Bearings Online, an internet based reseller of industrial bearings, are reaping the benefits of a new export strategy with a dramatic 150% rise in 2015 sales.
Although the company was only formed in 2012, they now ship regularly to clients in over 17 countries worldwide.
As Quality Bearings Online Director, Simon Riley, explains “it’s a real growing market. Bearings are used in everything from heavy industrial machinery, through to cars, everyday household appliances, cars and skate boards.”
As news of their success has spread, Simon and the team have been asked to speak at various events, including the recent Times SuperNorth event and a TV feature on Made in Leeds.
“Our clients come from all kinds of markets, including wine producers, aerospace and classic car restorers.”
The company started by selling bearings in the UK, but has now expanded to include over 1,000,000 products including lubricants and ancillary items.
All products can be bought online, and their website provides several different currency and shipping options, vital for export markets.
Asked why they decided to develop an export strategy, Simon suggests a number of factors “many international markets are growing far faster than the UK at present, plus it’s a matter of scale. With little adaptation our current website can attract customers from pretty much anywhere in the world, so it’s also very cost-efficient.”
Asked about the secret of their success, Simon suggests UK businesses wishing to export remember five key points “do your research, know your market and adapt to it, create a plan and commit and measure your success.”
Asked what the future might hold for Quality Bearings Online, Simon added “2015 has been really exciting for the team here. We’re constantly adding new products, and our web team work really hard to keep us at the top of search engines. 2016 will see us expanding our team, and we will also be upgrading our website to cope with the increased sales.”
