Tool hire firm Smiths to launch new Bootle centre
Independent plant and tool hire firm Smiths Equipment Hire has expanded with the launch of its first Hire It Centre in Sefton, near Liverpool.
North West family business Smiths has leased a site on Derby Road, Bootle, that will serve as a satellite hub for its larger operation in Warrington, giving customers in the area access to the firm’s range of tools and equipment.
Thomas Smith, Smiths Equipment Hire’s joint MD, said: “Our Warrington site has serviced Liverpool and Merseyside effectively for some time, but as the business grows and our customer base expands, it has become necessary to provide a service closer to the city.
“The Liverpool location will provide our range of smaller tools and access equipment, and be able to quickly arrange hire of larger requirements through the Warrington site.”
Smiths was advised on the expansion by North West law firm Napthens.
Martin Long, a partner in Napthens’ commercial property team, commented: “I have advised Smiths Equipment Hire for more than 30 years and it’s great to see a family business like this doing so well.
“The company has grown steadily and organically over a number of years to become a leading player in the equipment hire sector, and I know the team has plans for further growth too.”
Founded over 40 years ago, today Smiths Equipment Hire employs more than 100 people and operates 10 Hire It Centres in the North West, including sites in Blackburn, Bolton and Preston.
The business, managed by brothers David and Thomas Smith, recently underwent a rebrand and invested more than £2m in the launch of a new HQ and training base in Blackpool, as well as a new fleet and equipment.
The Liverpool Hire It Centre is due to open its doors in January 2016.
