Divorce enquiries almost double at Taylor&Emmet
Queries about divorce and separation increased by 41% in the first working week of the new year at Sheffield solicitors, Taylor&Emmet LLP.
The firm took a total of 31 calls from local people wanting initial advice about the breakdown of a relationship, compared to a weekly average of 22 during 2015.
Similar increases were seen in email enquiries and traffic to the family law pages of Taylor&Emmet’s website, where visitors can also access information about the options open to divorcing couples.
Michaela Heathcote, Taylor&Emmet’s head of family law, said: “The Christmas period puts immense strain on relationships and as a consequence, we see enquiries about divorce and separation peak in the first working days after the holidays. Making a break is a big decision and can be traumatic for everyone, especially children, so it is important to do your research and seek honest, practical advice about the options available.”
Taylor&Emmet is committed to helping clients keep divorce proceedings out of court by providing information and guidance about the various ways to reach a settlement. It offers services provided by specialist solicitors and a qualified mediator who will outline potential costs and timescales and work towards a fair outcome for the entire family.
The firm is also a member of the Dovetail Divorce Solutions network, which enables solicitors trained in collaborative law from across South and West Yorkshire to call on a financial adviser and divorce coach when necessary. By working together, the professionals help couples focus on the future, ensuring all parties remain calm and respectful during a separation.
Michaela added: “Divorce litigation is expensive, lengthy and stressful and with basic court fees rising from £410 to £550 in April, never has it been more important to look for alternative ways to reach a settlement.”
