London’s most populous borough plots £150m building plan
Barnet Council has today announced it is seeking a construction partner to help deliver its £150m building programme which is to take place over the next five years.
The London Borough’s plans include the development of new sports and leisure facilities, schools and libraries along with extensive refurbishment works across the borough.
It is hoped the development programme with a private sector partner will help Barnet, which became London’s most populous borough last year with 393,000 residents, make up a budget gap of £90m by 2020 as a result of funding cuts.
Of the £150m budget, £25m has been earmarked for two new leisure facilities scheduled to begin construction in September which will kick off the extensive redevelopment programme.
This includes a new leisure centre on the Copthall Estate to replace the existing centre, as well as another to be constructed on a green field site which will replace the current Church Farm Leisure Centre.
