Sandwell charity secures cash donation
A leading UK housebuilder has provided a cash injection to a charity that helps unpaid family carers in Sandwell.
Carers Advice and Resource Establishment Sandwell (CARES) was selected as part of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions scheme, with the charity being awarded £1,000 to help maintain their carer support services.
Persimmon’s Community Champions match-funding scheme seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.
The project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
CARES provides free and confidential information, advice and support for carers and their dependants in Sandwell. The charity helps carers with a range of services including outreach and information, peer to peer emotional and social support, a carers network and telephone helpline.
Geoff Foster, chief executive at CARES, said: “The donation from Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions initiative will be a great boost for our work with family carers in Sandwell.
“We help and support approximately 3,500 carers each year and our carer support groups are a vital part of the help we offer family carers.”
Amanda Benjamin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to be supporting CARES, as they do fantastic work to support the community and for that they deserve our thanks and backing.
“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it’s always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and try again; hopefully they will become our next Community Champions.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
