Cleckheaton light bulb supplier’s future is bright following Maxim Lamps acquisition

Cleckheaton-based Status International (UK) Limited, an independent light bulb and accessories supplier, has completed the acquisition of Sussex firm Maxim Lamps.

The deal signals further growth for the family run business which is looking to increase its market share.

Operating from its head office in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, Status has a warehouse, distribution centre and in-house design studio that employs in excess of 65 members of staff.

Run by father and son, Peter and Nicholas McVeigh, Status has a customer base across the UK and Europe, including major national retailers, wholesalers, independent retailers and electrical wholesalers.

Maxim Lamps is based in Haywards Heath, Sussex and is a light bulb supplier that produced its first light bulb in 1879.

The company, which has been run by the Poytner family since 1910, supplies a range of light bulbs and accessories for industrial applications, for example rough service bulbs and candle lamps. Maxim Lamps work with customers from retailers and market traders to larger cash and carry outlets and independent and electrical wholesalers in the UK.

Peter McVeigh, chairman of Status, said: “I am delighted with the purchase of Maxim Lamps which will strengthen our existing product range. Maxim Lamps has been a competitor of ours for a number of years and it is a significant addition to our company as we look to grow the business further this year.

“We intend to retain the Maxim Lamps brand in certain categories. It is very much business as usual for existing Maxim Lamps customers during this period as we look to merge the two businesses.”
