Preston-based Conlon delivers new Didsbury school building
Lancashire building firm Conlon Construction has completed work on new premises for West Didsbury CE Primary School.
The 11-week project, which was completed for an undisclosed sum and designed by Chester-based Lovelock Mitchell Architects, saw Conlon erect a new building alongside an existing block constructed in the 1990s.
Most of the build process was completed off site, according to Conlon, using modular construction methods. As part of the project, Conlon also demolished and removed a 1960s CLASP building and three-level residential block.
The school’s headteacher, Matt Whitehead, said: “This year we received 205 applications for just 30 places so the expansion, by way of a new school, is much needed and we will now be able to offer that same academic, creative and spiritual development to a further 60 children each year.”
The project comprises phase one of a seven-year plan to create a 420-pupil primary school on the site.
Conlon Construction chairman Michael Conlon commented “We have substantial experience in the education sector and are pleased another one of our school projects has been delivered on time and within budget.”
