Work begins on new community hub near Goodison Park
Work is now underway on a new Everton community hub being built by Liverpool construction firm Ashlar Construction (NW) Limited.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, which is designed by Liverpool-based Condy Lofthouse Architects, was attended by Denise Barrett-Baxendale MBE, CEO of Everton FC’s Everton in the Community (EitC) charity
Located next to Everton Free School in the shadow of Goodison Park, the new Community Hub will serve as a base of operations for all EitC employees and house a social enterprise café, in addition to counselling space and a Teen Zone for local youngsters to access programmes and facilities.
Commenting on the hub, EitC CEO Denise said: “We are delighted to now be at the stage to commence work on our new EitC Community Hub.
“This fantastic facility will allow us to offer members of our community a safe haven where they can socialise safely; access employment, training, and education and volunteering opportunities; receive support around physical health and provide access for isolated members of our community to engage with us via our programmes.”
Work on the centre, which is part funded by the Football Foundation and the Big Lottery Fund, is due for completion in Autumn 2016.
