Developer chosen for £56m residential scheme in Salford

Keepmoat, the housing and community regeneration firm, has been appointed to deliver a multi-million pound housing scheme that will see hundreds of new homes built in Salford.

As part of the £56m project, the company will work in partnership with Salford City Council to create a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes in the Charlestown Riverside area, with up to 20% of the properties available for shared ownership or rent.

The 18-acre development, located along the banks of the River Irwell, will be delivered over an eight-year period.

Keepmoat’s North West operations director, Gareth Roberts, said: “The new Charlestown Riverside site will serve to tackle both the regional and national housing shortage, as well as the skills crisis in the construction industry.

“We are supporting Salford’s economic ambitions to improve the quality and diversity of housing choices across the city; while creating a step-change in housing options for local people which will attract new families into the neighbourhood.”

He added: “We will also be working with the council and Great Places Housing Group to offer training and apprenticeship opportunities.”

Keepmoat is currently working alongside Salford council on a £650m regeneration project in Pendleton. Over 1,600 new homes are currently under construction and 1,250 more being refurbished.

Salford City Council’s executive lead member for housing and environment, Cllr Gena Merrett, commented: “It’s is fantastic news that works are about to start on this exciting new development.

“It will create new places for people to live and I look forward to seeing families move in and enjoy their new homes.”

Last week (February 29), Doncaster-headquartered Keepmoat announced a double North West contract win worth £60m.
