Plan for 175 new homes in Leyland set for greenlight
Planning bosses in South Ribble are being asked to approve a plan to build 175 new homes in Leyland, Lancashire.
Property developer Miller Homes is seeking to deliver a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and bungalows on the Croston Road South site in Farington Moss.
The properties would be built alongside green space, a playground and cyclepath, and part of a new road running through the development from the Flensburg Way roundabout.
Forming part of a larger area chosen for new homes by South Ribble Borough Council, the 15-acre site is one of the areas identified by the £434m Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal, an investment plan to drive growth through transport, community and infrastructure improvements.
Of the 175 properties, 26 would be marketed as affordable homes. In line with government rules, Miller Homes is also seeking to spend £950k in building a further 26 affordable homes nearby.
Cllr Cliff Hughes, South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet member for strategic planning, said: “This plan is part of the bigger picture. It is a key site identified under the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal, and would represent another step forward for our local plan.”
Plans for the Croston Road South development were sent back to the developer for a number of layout changes after a debate at a previous council meeting.
The chair of the City Deal, Jim Carter, commented: “One of the key aims of City Deal is to create homes for people to meet the future needs of the area. The City Deal will bring new jobs, so it’s vital that we create the communities where people can live, as well as improving existing communities.
“The aim of the City Deal is to unlock the economic potential of the Preston and South Ribble area, creating new jobs and making it easier for residents and businesses to get around.”
He added: “It’s an exciting time for the area and we’re determined to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
