Rock and Roll King’s Advice for Entrepreneurs
Lessons from Elvis Presley’s multi-million dollar empire’s success are the inspiration behind a series of start up business events taking place in Newcastle over the next year.
Organised by a partnership of Newcastle City Council, Transmit Start-Ups and Transmit Enterprise CIC, the aim of the sessions is to provide support for fledgling companies. They will cover various elements of being a new entrepreneur from networking with other start-up owners to finance and business support.
The first event will take place at Newcastle Library on Thursday 5 May from 5pm – 8.30pm.
Richard Myers, director, Transmit Start-Ups said: “One of the most successful entertainers was Elvis Presley who still produces substantial income from his estate. Elvis had a proud motto of ’Taking Care of Business in a Flash” or TCB, which he had emblazoned all around him, even on his private jet. We wanted these events to inspire the same positive, can-do attitude in our entrepreneurs.”
The first event in this series of three sessions is based on finance for start up companies. Called Finance For Your Start-Up, it will start with a panel discussion, including representatives from different financial support sectors, case studies of businesses that have already raised finance, as well as a question and answer session from the floor. Networking and exhibitors information will top and tail the event.
During the panel discussion the difference between alternative and traditional finance, the pros and cons of both and how to access bank loans, peer loans, crowdfunding, invoice finance and equity deals will be explained.
There is no charge for the event but places must be booked via www.takingcareofbiz.co.uk where there is also additional information. Updates will be made on Twitter using the hashtag #takingcareofbiz.
The organisers are currently pulling together guest speakers for the panel which will be announced soon. Businesses that are interested in speaking, sponsoring or exhibiting should contact Richard Myers at Transmit Start-Ups rich@transmitstartups.co.uk / 0191 490 9328.
The second event in the series will be on Thursday, 14 July, where the topic will be Business Support, followed by Mentoring and Coaching on Thursday, 13 October.
