Mayoral Election: Digital transformation needs to be prioritised.
Both candidates for the London Mayoral election have advocated the need for a new Chief Digital Officer and to upskill the City’s workforce to help with digital transformation within the city. Sadiq Khan has even promised to establish a tech talent pipeline, through the Skills for Londoners Taskforce, following the model developed by Bill de Blasio in New York.
There was scant mention of technology improvements in George Osborne’s latest budget and so the Mayoral candidates have a real opportunity to make a telling impact. To keep pace with leading digital cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, these candidates need to ensure they stick to these promises and make digital transformation a priority.
With digital transformation now firmly on the government’s agenda, businesses have a great opportunity to achieve noticeable improvements on customer and worker experiences. But, government backing alone is not enough to guarantee a successful transformation. For this to be effective, it’s essential for businesses to understand how customers and workers can better interact in this new environment. Through providing the right tools and technology, businesses can improve the worker experience which will empower employees to create an exceptional customer experience. The two are intrinsically linked and the growing dependency on digital will continue to underpin this virtuous cycle.
