Old industrial site in Preston makes way for 68 new homes
Work is now underway on a scheme to create dozens of new homes on a former industrial site in Preston.
Housing developer Mulbury is delivering 68 new affordable homes for Chorley Community Housing, on land located off New Hall Lane that once served as the home of Somic Mill.
The development, being built by Manchester firm Harbur Construction, forms part of the redevelopment of the Tetrad textiles site where Mulbury last year created 51 new homes for Adactus Housing Association.
The terraced, semi-detached and apartment homes comprise a mix of two- and three-bedroom properties, each of which will have two parking spaces and a rear garden.
Having secured funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, Mulbury is also seeking planning permission for a 70-unit extra care housing scheme on land adjacent to the Somic Mill site.
Mulbury’s operations director, Andrew Booth, said: “This second phase of development on this large former textile site will bring many community benefits.
“It will offer a significant visual improvement to the area and modern energy-efficient homes for local people.”
He added: “Demolition work on site is progressing well and we aim to have the site remediated and ready for construction to begin later this month.”
Cheshire-based Eden Building Design provided designs for the new homes.
