Stockton-on-Tees charity receives financial help
A local registered charity that supports isolated and disadvantaged children, young people and families has received financial help from a regional builder.
Eastern Ravens Trust has been donated £984 from Persimmon Homes Teesside through the builder’s Community Champions scheme, which offers good causes up to £1,000 every month.
One area that the charity supports is young carers aged 5-17 who care for a family member affected by mental health illness, disability, sensory loss or substance/alcohol abuse.
Eastern Ravens Trust Manager, Tracey Hamilton, said: “Young carers often take on roles that result in a negative impact on their emotional health and wellbeing as well as jeopardising their future life chances.
“This donation means such a lot to us as it allows 20 young carers to attend the National Young Carers Festival in Southampton in June.”
The festival gives the young carers a break from their everyday life and a chance to meet other people and talk about their issues.
Joan Peart, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Teesside, said: “Young people who have to take care of an ill family member aren’t appreciated enough, they deserve a break and a reward for their hard work.
“We were so impressed by this application and are delighted to support Eastern Ravens Trust in helping young carers across Stockton-on-Tees.”
