Pickering community to benefit from housebuilder's donation
A community church in Pickering plans to refurbish its catering facilities after receiving a donation from a leading regional housebuilder.
Pickering Methodist Church was named a ‘Community Champion’ by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire and awarded £1,000 towards its kitchen refurbishment.
A vital feature of the church, the new facilities will enable its members to extend its catering services for community events as well as open a drop-in café.
Jerry Watts, Pickering Methodist Church trustee, said: “We are delighted to have received Persimmon Homes’ donation it will really help us to start work on our new catering services.
“The church is a fantastic space which has supported the community for many years. We provide a venue for many local activities and groups such as, playgroups, guides and brownies, Ryedale food bank, as well as cinema.
“We are currently looking at updating and improving our facilities for the benefit of the community and Persimmon’s donation will help us to start work on the new kitchen and café.”
Pickering Methodist Church applied for the funding as part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative, a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Pickering Methodist Church certainly provides a ‘hub’ for the community. We are working towards launching a new site in Pickering, named West Mead, later this year so it seemed fitting to donate to a cause that would benefit the local area.”
Any charities or community groups who have previously been unsuccessful in their application are urged to reapply by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
Persimmon Homes Yorkshire has developments across North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire and is launching eight new developments this year.
