Mother and son duo launch North East ice cream venture
A new coffee shop and ice cream business, Cafe Arcade, has opened at the recently-refurbished Central Arcade on Northallerton High Street.
Mother and son Carole and Ryan Lee are the duo behind the venture, letting a unit in the Arcade from Tees Valley independent commercial property consultants Dodds Brown LLP.
Acting on behalf of landlord Barkers (Northallerton) Limited, the property company of Barkers Department Store, Richard Wilson, Senior Associate Partner at Middlesbrough-based Dodds Brown, let Ground Floor, Unit 6, Central Arcade, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL7 8PY, to Carole and Ryan Lee on a new five year lease.
The letting follows a six figure investment by the landlord in new archways, lighting, signage and hard landscaping in Central Arcade, an attractive retail arcade comprising nine small units located on the eastern side of Northallerton High Street.
Carole Lee says: “After working closely in the community for years on a local ice-cream van, my son Ryan and I have decided to venture out and open our very own café, combining Ryan’s extensive kitchen skills, and myself as front of house to meet and greet our wonderful customers at the new Café Arcade.”
Richard Wilson added: “With nearby occupiers including NatWest, Hays Travel, Lewis & Cooper, The Bridal Lounge, Greensleeves and Rock Box Music Shop, Central Arcade is a good location for smaller retailers, in a town which thanks to its mix of independent shops, anchored by Barkers department store, is extremely popular with shoppers.”
