Royal seal of approval for forestry business
A North woodland managed by Hexham-based EGGER Forest Management has won a major national award.
Warren & Lalbuss Woods, in Ivegill near Carlisle, was a winner in the Royal Forestry Society’s Excellence in Forestry Awards – England’s premier and hotly-contested forestry competition.
Taking silver in the Duke of Cornwall Award for Resilience, the prize was received by forest manager Dave Robson who is based at EGGER in Hexham.
The judges said: “Timber production and capital value are important drivers in these woodlands, and there has been significant investment in infrastructure. This has allowed the owner to bring the somewhat neglected stands of pine, larch and spruce into active management. Management is of a very high standard.”
Dave, who lives in Prudhoe, added: “The site owner, Orlando Finzi, and I are delighted to receive this award in recognition of the hard work, planning and attention to detail during operational work that we have carried out in the forest.
“The challenges presented in Warren and Lalbuss were typical of under-managed forest stands where no formal or planned intervention had taken place for many years.”
Another local winner was Moss Woods, Hexham – owned by James Ogilvie and which took silver in the Small and Farm Woodlands category.
