Phase one of £5m refurb at Cheadle Hulme High School complete

Phase one of a seven-figure refurb project at Cheadle Hulme High School is complete.

The first stage of the £5m renovation, designed by Altrincham-based Pozzoni Architecture, included the conversion of previously underused squash courts into a multi-gym with a sprung floor, climbing wall and new air temperature controls.

Pozzoni Architecture’s designs also included the refurbishment of the gym’s showers, changing rooms and lockers.

Subject to planning consent the next phase of the project, beginning in February 2017, will see a flood-lit artificial football and rugby pitch added to the school’s external facilities.

Further, planning applications have been submitted for phase three of the project which, if approved, will see the school’s entrance completely redesigned and create a new teaching school, refectory and administration facilities.

Scott Bearman, a project architect within Pozzoni’s education team, said: “We worked with Cheadle Hulme High School a few years ago on the design of a new sixth form building so it’s great to be involved again and see the school continue to develop.

“Having excellent facilities that the whole community can benefit from, as well as the staff and students, is a real asset for the school and great way to encourage families to become more active.”

Cheadle Hulme High School’s headteacher, Linda Magrath, commented: “Everybody here is very excited at the prospect of opening our new sporting facility, Club Cheadle Hulme, in November.

“We are celebrating with a launch on December 1 with our alumni, Andrew Law, whose Educational Trust has made this transformation possible.”

Cheadle Hulme High School intends to make its modernised facilities available for use to the local community during evenings and at weekends.
