Passenger numbers take off for Wizz Air at Doncaster Sheffield Airport
Extra seats have been added to Wizz Air’s base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport due to operating a new Airbus A321 aircraft.
The new, larger plane, means that up to 400 extra seats per week are available for passengers flying from Doncaster Sheffield to Warsaw on Wizz Air.
The airline now flies to 12 destinations from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, with its most recent route Cluj, Romania launching in July.
Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “We are really pleased that Wizz Air are now operating these new, larger planes from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
“Wizz Air have been operating from here for over 10 years, carrying 2.6 million passengers in that time.
“We’ve seen our relationship go from strength to strength over the past decade with their twelfth route to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria taking off in December 2016. The twice weekly flights start on December 23 and will operate all year round.
“Sofia is a gem of a capital city, steeped in history through its many Roman ruins dotted throughout the city and is the best way to travel to the country’s fantastic ski resorts.”
Chris added: “The continued growth with Wizz Air over the past decade shows the strength of our relationship and the local demand to reach the destinations they serve.”
Sofia will bring Wizz Air’s annual passenger offering at Doncaster Sheffield Airport to over 600,000.
