School’s revamp project given £1,000 boost by housebuilder
A Somerset school looking to revamp its facilities has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.
Ravenswood School in Nailsea wants to refurbish the outside of its building as it looks to modernise the premises for the new school year.
The school has 112 pupils aged between four and 19 years of age with more than half of them vulnerable young people on the autistic spectrum. Ravenswood School was handed the cash as part of the housing firm’s Community Champions scheme. It is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Philippa Clark, headteacher at Ravenswood School said: “The vulnerable young people at our school are on the autistic spectrum. Some have complex psychological needs, some have complex medical needs and some have both.
“We are raising money to completely redecorate and refurbish the outside of the primary department of the school, to give these children a cracking start for the upcoming school year in a brand new modern environment.
“The building has not been touched for many years, has no insulation and is beginning to look tired. A new exterior is needed and so the donation of £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is a welcome contribution to our efforts.”
Nicola Hill, sales and marketing director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, added: “When we heard of Ravenswood School’s plans we wanted to help them all we could.
“The parents and staff have worked hard hosting a number of events to raise money for the refurbishment and it’s our privilege to contribute to their cause.”
