Tottenham Hotspur stadium update: Regeneration plans take shape as affordable homes plot is lauded

One of the first schemes to be delivered as part of Tottenham Hotspur’s wider regeneration efforts linked to its new stadium development has been lauded by a major housing industry publication.

The club’s 100% affordable Cannon Road Scheme, which was delivered in partnership with Newlon Housing Trust, opened in November 2015 and consists of 222 new homes and a new school, all sitting within touching distance of the Premier League club’s new 61,000 seater home.

Now the scheme has been awarded ‘Affordable Housing Development of the Year’ at the Top 60 Development Awards, an industry event organised by the Inside Housing publication, in recognition of the project’s affordability and suitability for the needs of the local community.

Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy, commented: “We are committed to investing in our community and ensuring local residents have access to affordable housing and quality education facilities.

“This prestigious award is recognition of the fantastic scheme that Newlon Housing Trust has worked hard with us to deliver as part of our continued aims to transform the Tottenham area.”

Mike Hinch, Chief Executive, Newlon Housing Trust, added: “We are delighted that Cannon Road has won this award which recognises the transformation of this part of Tottenham High Road from a brownfield site into a thriving and sustainable new community.

“Cannon Road is a landmark development which contributes to the ongoing regeneration of the area driven by Spurs’ new stadium project.”

Constructed on the site of a former North London rubber factory, the Cannon Road Scheme was the starting gun for the club’s large-scale regeneration efforts in the area around the Northumberland Park stadium development.

The £1bn masterplan includes a £450m housing and leisure development that will deliver 1,400 new homes, a new park and various community initiatives including a library and park, along with 5,000 new jobs to North London by 2025.

Work continues on the stadium which is due to open in time for the 2018/19 season.
