Efficient services

The government is responsible for providing efficient services to its citizens. These services as objected to the private enterprise are regarded as public services. For instance, the government is mandated to respond to tragedies such as earthquakes and offer necessary assistance to the people (Sobel 31-4). The government is also tasked with resolving conflicts in order to ensure peaceful co-existence and cooperation of its citizens. In a means to heal past conflicts, the government ensures that political parties are created democratically through which it uses to campaign or diversity and endorse more professional and productive reactions to the contentious issues. Further, the government may form less stringent laws, which provides more freedom and autonomy between parties. The government also utilizes its collaborative structures in order to generate better decision-making and good utilization of resources and funds.

In order to ensure the security of its people, the government uses the police force to maintain law and order. The police force ensures that everybody adheres to the law despite his or her social status in society. In case, the government fails to perform the above the functions, there will be dreadful consequences. For instance, there will be delegitimization of the state in the sense that corruption among the ruling class will be rampant; there will be no transparency and accountability.

Further, it will result in continued deterioration of public services in that the diminishing of the state functions that serve the citizens incorporating failure to safeguard its citizens from violence and terrorism and to offer essential services such as sanitation, education, health, and public transportation. Additionally, there will be violation of human rights in that there is a possibility of outbreak of politically motivated violence against innocent citizens (MacDonald 59).

Increase in number of political dissents or prisoners who are subjected to brutality and denied justice. In sum, the government is mandated to perform functions such as maintenance of power or authority, ensure National Security, Provide for the public good, Provide services, Resolve conflict, and maintain law and order. Failure to perform this functions properly will result in turmoil in the sense that people will lack basic services, there will increase criminal activities and widespread violation of people’s rights.
