New passenger figures for Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) have revealed the facility to be among the UK’s fastest growing.
So far in 2016, over 400k more passengers have travelled through the airport compared to the same period in 2015.
The growth represents a year-on-year increase of 12% and places the airport’s passenger figure for the last 10 months at around 4.2m.
LJLA has now recorded year-on-year passenger growth for 21 consecutive months.
Bosses now expect 2016 to be its best year since 2011.
The airport said its latest figures reflect a continued upsurge in business following the addition of a number of new routes.
Further passenger growth is forecast in 2017, with Blue Air announcing plans to establish a new European base in Liverpool and Irish carrier Ryanair continuing to expand its Merseyside operations.
