Law firm targeting high-growth tech businesses launches in Manchester
Boutique law firm Buckworths has launched a new Manchester office targeting the city’s high growth tech sector.
The London-headquartered firm was founded by former Shearman and Sterling lawyer Michael Buckworth in 2011, and since then has developed a reputation for advising high-growth tech startups in the capital.
In particular, the firm has carved out a niche assisting startups and entrepreneurs looking to raise funds from angel investors and venture capital houses during funding rounds.
According to Buckworth, Managing Partner of Buckworths, Manchester’s reputation for innovative businesses, particularly FinTech firms, will see the city become an increasingly important European tech hub in the years to come.
He said: “There’s no doubt that the existing infrastructure of the city is ripe for an explosion in the number of disruptive digital companies.
“Fintech companies are creating the blueprint for the way in which innovative startups can disrupt seemingly unmovable industries. The fact that more regulatory frameworks are being developed around fintech proves the point.
“It makes sense that we’re here in Manchester with its professional and financial community, digital hubs and growing reputation in this area. Direct flights to China also assist in making it attractive for Chinese investment.”
Based on Kings Street, the Buckworths’ northern office will launch with one partner and two associates and is also recruiting for associates with specialisms in advising high-growth startups.
