New Sunderland site for leading self-storage business

North East based shipping containers business Parsons Containers Group has opened a new site in Sunderland for its U Hold The Key self-storage business. The Southwick site is part of an expansion that is seeing the number of stores that the company manages increase by almost 50%. The company now has 10 self-storage sites in the North East and Lincolnshire.

The Parsons Containers Group of companies is one of the UK’s leading shipping container businesses, and has been operating since 2000. The group is based in Sedgefield, County Durham, and also includes Parsons Containers Ltd which sells standard and bespoke containers, and online brands ContainerContainer and ContainersNow, which sell containers nationwide. The Sunderland site is under the Queen Alexandra Bridge on Crown Road, Low Southwick, and offers secure self-storage in shipping containers of three sizes – 8ft, 10ft and 20ft. Customers are able to access the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via an electronic gate system.

U Hold The Key has recently rolled out three new container self-storage sites in the North East – as well as the Sunderland location, the company has also opened on the A66 approach to Darlington and at Mainsforth (near Ferryhill, just off the A1 in County Durham). The expansion is a response to the continued demand for container self-storage and the new sites will give the company a capacity of 1,500 stores, up from the previous figure of around 1,000. The Sunderland site is an important strategic location, offering customers in the city, and those who use the nearby A19, easy access secure self-storage close to a main arterial route.

Parsons Group managing director Ean Parsons comments: “The expansion of U Hold The Key builds on our well-established and successful business model. We offer inexpensive, easily accessible and very flexible self-storage that is available 24 hours a day and demand for that service is continuing to grow. U Hold The Key has been around for 15 years and we now have a large and loyal existing customer base throughout the North East. Opening up in Sunderland plugs a strategically important geographical gap and will appeal to existing and new customers on Wearside and the surrounding area.

“The service that U Hold The Key offers is vital in supporting a local economy. We have a long-standing reputation for delivering secure and convenient storage and I am confident that opening in Sunderland will enhance our industry leading position.”

The Parsons Containers Group has developed a reputation for innovating in the field of containers and self-storage. Parsons Containers continues to specialise in producing bespoke containers for a wide variety of applications, while U Hold The Key recently launched a mobile app to help customers identify the right type and location of storage for their own requirements, and book and pay for that using their smartphone or other device. Parsons has also supplied container solutions to support major events in the region, such as Lumiere in Durham, and most recently, the Tall Ships in Blyth.

U Hold The Key offers 24/7 access to its 10 secure sites in the North East and Lincolnshire and is a market leader in container self-storage.
