Paddington Cube set to unlock 'tremendous change' after finally sealing planning approval
Irvine Sellar’s Paddington Cube scheme has finally been approved with promises of wholesale regeneration in the area around the new building.
The £775m scheme, which was originally planned as a 65-storey pole-style structure, will deliver 360,000 sq ft office property along with 80,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space.
Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the 19-storey building was given planning approval last night after a late offer from the developers to fund and build new roads for ambulance access to St Mary’s Hospital sealed the deal.
Further regeneration efforts, which Sellar says will transform ‘tatty’ Paddington, include £2m of public art, shops, and access to a new Bakerloo line tube station.
Following approval, Sellar told the Evening Standard: “This will kick-start a total, needed new development which will bring jobs, better connectivity - because the connectivity is terrible.
“The fact we are going to provide a proper ambulance route is fine and we are prepared to continue to work with the hospital.
