Red Cross charity abseil supported by Actavo
Actavo | Hire & Sales Solutions provided the scaffolding for the British Red Cross’ Steel City Abseil event held in Sheffield city centre on Sunday, 30th October 2016.
The charity fundraiser event saw volunteers – many in fancy dress – take on a thrilling abseil down the Owen Building – a 120ft Sheffield Landmark. The British Red Cross’ annual charity event has raised £10,000 to help people in the UK and overseas whose lives have been affected by crises and disasters.
Helen Whale, Senior Community Fundraiser at British Red Cross, says: “We’re so grateful to Actavo for suppling the scaffolding and platform, which was imperative in making the abseil safe and easily accessible for fundraisers.
“Without Actavo’s continuous help and support, we could not make this event as successful as it is to raise money to help people in real need.”
Actavo has supported the event for the past three years, and this year, the company updated the design of the scaffolding structure with help from its specialist Industrial Solutions team. Matt Abbott of Eight Point Two Adventure Challenge Events, says: “The scaffolding provided by Actavo was one of the best structures we’ve worked with.
“It was positioned to ensure that we, as professionals, and all the fundraisers could have a thrilling, yet completely safe, experience making the day a huge success and highly enjoyable for everyone involved.”
The South Yorkshire branch of Actavo | Hire & Sales provided the scaffolding equipment, whilst the assembly and dismantle of the structure was undertaken in partnership with Inspired Scaffolding Services Ltd.
Steve Swain, manager at the South Yorkshire branch, says: “Another year and another successful Steel City Abseil event. We were delighted to help the brave volunteers who abseiled to raise money for the British Red Cross.
“The scaffolding was essential in ensuring the rooftop was safe enough for the abseil as it provided a platform for safety ropes and equipment. We are proud to have played a key role in helping the Red Cross with such a successful charity event.”
