Flybe launches two new Scottish routes to Heathrow

Regional airline Flybe has launched two new routes to London Heathrow from Scotland in what will be the carrier’s first routes to the London hub airport.

The new routes will serve Aberdeen and Edinburgh offering a combined service of over 40 flights a week scheduled between the Scottish cities and the capital.

Flybe already flies to the Scottish capital and Aberdeen from London City Airport.

According to the airline, the slots became available due to commitments required by the European Commission following BMI’s acquisition by International Consolidated Airlines Group in April 2012, meaning Flybe will not be paying for the new slots.

Executive Chairman, Simon Laffin, commented: “We are delighted to announce our first flights to London Heathrow, significantly enhancing our UK domestic route network and offering even better links between Scotland and London.

“The new routes to Heathrow complement the existing ones we operate to London City, and will benefit our business customers and customers in Scotland who want to connect with our long haul codeshare partners.”

Launching on 26 March 2017, the airline will offer up to 18 flights a day between London and Edinburgh, and up to 10 flights a day between the capital and Aberdeen from Terminal 2.

Heathrow’s Chief Executive, John Holland-Kaye, added: “Improving the connections into Heathrow from all around the UK will be vital in helping to secure the economic future of communities in every corner of the nation.

“Today’s announcement shows that the measures we’re introducing, such as the £10 reduction on domestic passenger charges, are already working to secure vital links.”
