Morgan Sindall delivers £10m Edgware primary school

Construction firm Morgan Sindall has delivered a £10m primary school in Edgware that will allow a North London academy to offer all-through schooling.

The new primary school at London Academy means the school can now accommodate pupils from 4 to 19 years old, adding to its current secondary school and sixth form provision.

Consisting of 14 classrooms, communal assembly halls and a kitchen area, the building’s central atrium has also been designed to let in as much natural light as possible.

The scheme has also incorporated a selection of ‘unique teaching spaces’ with areas such as an outdoor learning terrace, central breakout space and theatre-style concrete auditorium.

Neil Franklin, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “London Academy is innovative in design and is already providing pupils in Edgware with a modern and creative education base.

“The project was unique in its delivery and included the modular construction of classrooms where over half were pre-fabricated off-site and craned into place. Specialist materials were also used to create the distinct blue and white checkered, glazed block-work exterior.

“We’re delighted to have completed London Academy and look forward to delivering further projects for the London Borough of Barnet.”

The first two year groups have already moved into the new building and the academy plans to gradually incorporate other school years progressively, with the school able to ultimately accommodate 420 pupils.

Angela Trigg, Executive Principal at AIM Academies Trust, commented: “We are extremely pleased with the new primary building. Morgan Sindall has successfully delivered a building that fully reflects the beautiful design and educational vision of both London Academy and AIM Academies Trust.”
