Collingwood Legal supports Lee Congerton with Celtic contract
Newcastle-based law firm Collingwood Legal has scored another success for its growing sports practice, advising Lee Congerton on his top appointment at Celtic Football Club.
Principal Solicitor Paul McGowan worked closely with Collingwood Legal client Lee, leading contract negotiations with Celtic in the process to appoint him as the Glasgow club’s head of recruitment.
“I worked closely with Lee and negotiated on his behalf with Celtic about the terms of his employment with the club,” said Paul, an industry recognised expert in the field of employment law with 20 years experience.
“We were delighted to see Lee appointed to a job he feels so passionately about at a club with such history and success.”
Lee said: “I really valued Paul’s legal advice and speed of response. I sought his experience to lead my contract negotiations with Celtic Football Club after receiving a personal recommendation. Paul and the team at Collingwood provided a great service.
“It’s a huge honour to be appointed at Celtic and I can’t wait to get started in making my contribution to such a fantastic institution.”
Lee has an impressive track record in football – working as a coach with Liverpool and the Welsh FA and being appointed by Jose Mourinho as youth team coach at Chelsea.
He was technical director at Hamburg and sporting director at Sunderland before his appointment at Celtic, runaway leaders of the Scottish Premiership.
Lee’s appointment is the latest success in a growing sports practice at Collingwood Legal, an employment law specialist.
“As a firm we regularly deal with high end and sensitive commercial contract issues for senior employees,” said Paul.
“We have a growing sports practice having been involved in some high end issues involving a number of football clubs over the past 12 months.
“It’s great for us to be associated with sporting success – Celtic are all set and in good position to secure the Scottish Premiership title in super quick time this year and we look forward to watching Lee help the club build on this success.”
