Newcastle’s Definition IP in Core expansion
North East patent and intellectual property advisory firm Definition IP has expanded to new premises at The Core at Science Central to facilitate the next stage in its growth.
Founded by Claire Rutherford, and supported by fellow Director Dan Mercer, the business provides practical advice on IP to innovative and growing businesses in the region and beyond.
To date the business has received support and office space from the Entrepreneurial Spark programme although with continued growth the duo felt the time was right to move into their own premises.
Speaking of the recent move, Claire explained: “Dan and I have worked in Intellectual Property for many years and whilst there are a number of Patent Attorney firms, the majority are in reality better suited to corporate clients.
“We wanted to focus on those innovative businesses who don’t have an in-house IP department but are nonetheless innovating.
“Too many firms in the region are put off looking at their IP as they believe it is too complicated or expensive – we want to change that.
“The Core is a great move for us as it is such an innovative building itself – not to mention full of exciting businesses so there’s a great buzz here.”
Dan added: “Moving into a space at The Core is a great fit for us. As our Client list expands and we are working with more and more growing businesses we need space where we can meet with them as well as spend time as a team.
“We already work with some of the other businesses onsite, and have worked with the Core as a business address and were impressed with the team, so moving into permanent accommodation here was an obvious choice for us.”
