Liverpool's Brain Charity scoops top volunteering accolade

Liverpool-based neurological charity, The Brain Charity, has received one of the country’s top accolades for its excellent work.

The Norton Street based centre was recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to voluntary sector groups in the UK.

The charity is the only national organisation in the UK which offers support across the spectrum of neurological conditions such as attention deficit disorder, dementia and strokes, rather than just focusing on one condition.

Since opening its doors, The Brain Charity has helped thousands of people across the region, providing them with advice, education and support on their conditions.

Chief executive officer of The Brain Charity, Nanette Mellor, was invited down to Buckingham Palace to celebrate the achievement.

Nanette said: “On behalf of everyone at The Brain Charity, it is great honour to be handed this prestigious award.

“I would like to thank our selfless volunteers because none of this would be possible without them. We have an amazing group that work alongside our dedicated staff to deliver a range of services and activities tailor-made to improve the quality of people’s lives on a daily basis.”

There will be a ceremony to celebrate the award in Liverpool with the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, later in the year.
