Work gets underway at Seddon’s £6.5m Stockport scheme

A new £6.5m housing development is coming to Stockport after developers Seddon began working on the site.

The 59-home plot at the disused site of St Thomas’ Hospital on Flint Street is being developed for the Viaduct Housing Partnership between Stockport Council and Stockport Homes, and will bring a mix of shared ownership and rental properties to the area.

The scheme, which is expected to be completed by December 2018, will deliver two and three bedroom apartments and houses, as well as four purpose-built properties for disabled residents in an attempt to plug the gap of affordable homes in the town.

As part of the scheme, Seddon have also created five apprenticeship opportunities for young people and has vowed to engage with schools and the wider community across the life of the project.

Councillor Sheila Bailey, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing, said: “The purpose of the Viaduct Housing Partnership between Stockport Council and Stockport Homes is to develop as many affordable homes as possible in communities across Stockport.

“We are very pleased to be working with Seddon on this new development. The need for affordable homes is greater than ever.”

Duncan Williams, housing director at Seddon, added: “This is a really exciting development on a site which has been derelict for well over 10 years.

“These unused pockets of land are fantastic development opportunities and it’s satisfying to be able to transform them into thriving communities.
