Celebrating the grass shoots of enterprise

Young entrepreneurs have been showing just what you can achieve given the right encouragement and a dash of imagination. Stockton Riverside College hosted the first Enterprising Stockton Awards. The event recognised the achievements of fledgling student businesses, showing that the young people of Stockton have real entrepreneurial spirit. From a film production company to a nail technician offering a bespoke range of bug nail designs, Stockton Riverside College’s Enterprise Co-ordinator Laura Langridge said: “It is clear, when it comes to ideas, the young people of Stockton are not lacking in imagination.” Representatives from Teesside businesses, education providers, voluntary organisations and the local authority have come together, with Stockton Riverside College, to help cultivate a culture of enterprise across the borough. By working together the Enterprising Stockton panel aims to identify ways of encouraging entrepreneurship, share expertise and help bring opportunities to young people with a good idea. At Stockton Riverside College students are encouraged to develop their entrepreneurial skills, alongside their course, by pitching their enterprise ideas with the chance to secure a small sum of cash to get started. The college also takes enterprise workshops out to schools offering groups of pupils the chance to put their money-making skills to the test. In its first celebration awards were presented for: Services/Events, Most Sustainable Project, Most Profitable, Social Impact and Best Business

The 2017 winners were: Services/Events Award - Ufilms Productions Most Sustainable Project Award - Upcycle Timber Products Most Profitable Award - Aurora Nails Social Impact Award - North Shore Academy Year 7 Team Best Business - Ufilms Productions
