Work starts on third phase of Manchester Gardens masterplan
Building firm Pochin’s Ltd has started construction work on The City Gardens in Manchester.
The company today (August 21) broke ground on the development, which includes over 100 apartments off Chester Road in the city’s Castlefield district.
The City Gardens represents phase three of developer DeTrafford’s Manchester Gardens project, with Pochin’s already on site with the first two phases – The Roof Gardens and The Sky Gardens.
The new homes delivered in the third phase will comprise a mix of 109 one- and two-bedroom apartments, six triplex penthouses and a master penthouse occupying the 11-storey building’s top three floors.
Jim Nicholson, chief executive at Pochin’s, said: “Having worked closely with DeTrafford on previous projects we have developed a strong working relationship and share their eye for high quality residential design.
“It has been exciting for us to be part of this journey to create what will be a new and vibrant neighbourhood, and we’re looking forward to delivering another key part of the puzzle.”
DeTrafford’s masterplan for the area encompasses 1,300 homes, 30,000 sq ft of commercial space, a public square, courtyards and tree-lined walkways.
DeTrafford founder and director Gary Jackson commented: “With each phase of development our vision for this area of Castlefield begins to take shape.
“Pochin’s have been instrumental in bringing our vision to life to date, and it made complete sense for us to bring them on board for this next stage of development to ensure a consistent, high quality delivery.”
The City Gardens was designed by architects Ollier Smurthwaite.
