Sheffield and Leeds rank among top UK cities to find a job in
As businesses are preparing for the September recruitment drive, new data has claimed that Leeds and Sheffield are among the best cities in the UK to find a job in.
A new report from the independent job board CV-Library, has revealed that job numbers in Sheffield have increased by 42.5%, whilst Leeds also saw a 34.4%.
This suggests that the Yorkshire cities are among the top locations to be looking for a job in right now.
The data analysed the average number of jobs across key UK cities last month, and compared this with statistics from the same period last year.
As for the whole of the UK, there was an increase in advertised vacancies of 10.7% year-on-year.
The top ten cities to look for work right now are:
- Bristol - 45.3%
- Sheffield – 42.5%
- Glasgow – 37.8%
- Leeds – 34.4%
- Manchester – 33.2%
- Cardiff – 30.3%
- Southampton – 28.6%
- Birmingham – 27.3%
- Edinburgh – 27.1%
- Liverpool – 19.2%
Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, commented: “It’s clear that businesses in Leeds are gearing up for the month ahead, with September traditionally being a busy time for recruitment.
“If you’ve recently graduated or you’re looking for your next career move, now is the perfect time to ramp-up your job search, with so many exciting opportunities across the UK’s key cities and industries.”
The data, however, suggests that candidate appetite is not moving at the same pace, with application numbers dropping by 5.6% year-on-year.
Despite this decrease, this is not unusual for this time of year, which typically experiences a summer slowdown in job hunting activity.
Biggins concluded: “While application numbers are not meeting employer demand in Leeds, we expect to see these figures pick back-up in September, which tends to be a much busier month for recruitment.
“Leeds is an exciting city to live and work in and is home to some fantastic opportunities so now could be the right time to freshen up your CV and start your job hunt!”
