Portishead girls football team scores with funding
A football club in Portishead has secured a donation from a leading housebuilder to supply a new training kit.
Portishead Town Juniors Football Club were gifted £750 from Persimmon Home Severn Valley as part of the company’s Healthy Communities scheme, which supports young individuals and grassroot clubs across the region.
The football club was looking for funding for a training kit and coats for their new girls under 8 team who do not yet have adequate kit or equipment.
Sarah Barnard, manager for the girls under 8 team, said: “Portishead Town Junior Football Club has over 100 girls playing across nine teams for the coming season. The girls under 8 team has only been running for just over a year, but we have all been taken aback by the popularity with this age group.
“Thanks to Persimmon for their generosity, which will help keep the girls warm this winter with new training kit and coats.”
Carly Spear, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “It’s very exciting to see girl’s football growing in popularity. Clubs like Portishead Town FC are a great example of why we should fund sports teams to encourage participation for everybody.
“Portishead has grown hugely in size and has lots of boys and girls registered under Portishead Town with waiting lists for most age groups. The girls are so enthusiastic and have lots of potential so we want to provide them with kit to make them feel like they belong and to encourage them.”
