Soccer starlets net James Milner deal - thanks to Leeds lawyers
Guiseley Juniors put their shirts on new ‘signing’ James Milner
THE name James Milner is synonymous with soccer success, starring on the wing for Leeds United, Manchester City and current club Liverpool and earning 60 caps for England in a glittering career.
And now players from Guiseley Juniors Football Club are hoping his world class skills will transfer to them - thanks to a squad signing with a difference.
But it’s not the Premier League soccer star, who first laced his boots as schoolboy playing for nearby Horsforth, who is behind the deal.
But one of Leeds’ longest-established legal firms - launched by his namesake.
For Milners solicitors, headquartered in the city centre, have been unveiled as the new sponsors of the club’s under 13s girls team.
The practice was founded by the former Leeds Coroner James Milner – no relation – and is marking its 120th anniversary this year.
Partner and Head of Commercial Property Andrew Price, who lives in Guiseley, said the sporting link-up broke new ground for the firm.
“We are delighted to support this home-grown sporting talent at grass roots level -especially at a family club which sits at the heart of our local community,” he said. “We hope that one day these young players may follow in the successful footsteps of either one of the James Milners - if not as an international footballer, then hopefully closer to home with a rewarding career in law!”
Guiseley Juniors Football Club is reputedly the largest of its kind in the country, with more than 500 registered players and over 50 teams across a range of age groups form under 7s to under 17s.
Founded by the Leeds Coroner James Milner in 1897, Milners provides specialist advice for business in corporate law, commercial contracts, commercial property, development and construction, commercial litigation, insolvency, debt collection, and employment law.
