David Wilson Homes showcases construction careers to local pupils
Five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes has been showcasing jobs in the construction industry to pupils from local schools in Bristol.
Youngsters from the Castle School in Thornbury and Downend School joined staff at David Wilson Homes for a two week work experience project during the summer.
They were given the opportunity to learn about everything from land buying to planning procedures through to jobs on site for construction staff and site managers.
Martyn Brooks, construction director at David Wilson Homes said the two week project was designed to give the pupils a real understanding of the varied roles within the construction industry and how all roles are crucial in creating a successful new development.
“The pupils were all aware of the different roles on site but I think we showed them that construction is extremely diverse and we need a real variety of skills for the future,” he said. “As a leading housebuilder we are keen to showcase great careers to those considering their futures now and hope that this project has encouraged some of these pupils to follow a career in construction.”
Andy Bethell, deputy headteacher at The Castle School in Thornbury said,“It is always extremely useful for pupils to gain a real insight into the workplace and it’s great that companies such as David Wilson Homes can offer this kind of opportunity.”
